Have you ever wondered what God thinks about the work of His hands in this generation? I have asked myself several questions in the past few years of my life, considering the trend of cheap talk, wrong or partly correct definition of success, make-believe lifestyles that are displayed on social media and on all other platforms, and making of boasts by quite a lot of people who consider themselves to be too relevant in God’s plan that He cannot afford to do without them. An attempt to compare the fathers of faith recorded in the Bible and ourselves in this present time can be said to be almost impossible.
It is interesting to know that a lot of the actions and inactions of those who profess to be followers of Christ in this present time is sending quite a number of people out of the fold and discouraging a whole lot of people from coming into the fold at all. As much as there is no valid excuse as to how someone else’s ways or act is a justifiable reason for a follower of Christ to quit following, it is sad to know that this has been the case in recent times. No one is worth me losing my salvation, neither is anyone worth the perishing of the souls that Jesus died for by being a stumbling block to their coming to the knowledge of His saving grace.
The complacency of the younger generation who are full of questions is quite alarming because a lot of supposed followers of Christ are not willing or able to answer their questions and even when answered it is from the legalistic approach which results in a worse state of confusion for the younger ones. I have had reasons to interact with quite a number of them and their reason for not wanting to follow Jesus is because they think the message of the Cross is for the enrichment of the pocket of a select few and they consider themselves out of place as a result of this. They also feel the lifestyle of several supposed followers of Christ is full of lies and deception and not worth following. These are souls that Jesus died for but who are letting the life of fellow humans hinder them from becoming who Jesus died for them to become – Sons and daughters of Yahweh.
The truth, however, remains that God is never going to lose a generation contrary to what many think. He is always raising an army for Himself in every generation but the sad thing is that not quite a lot of people get enlisted in His army. Life is about choices and it pays to choose to follow Christ even if every other person does not, the supposed followers are unserious, careless or not worth emulating. It has always been about looking unto Jesus and not anyone, else no one will walk with Jesus considering that humans always fall short of His glory and sometimes are too blind to see how far they have gone in their fall.
We live in a time when anyone can have an audience everywhere in the world yet it is all a mirage. People’s definition of success is based on the material things others possess, there is great competition and strive to surpass the other person, sacrificial living and giving does not matter in any way, it is all about wanting to receive from others and never willing to give back, spiritual gifts have become a means to enrich self and the bellies of many has become their God. It is a time when there is an obvious fulfilment of God’s Word in – 2 Timothy 3: 2-4
All of these does not change the truth about God’s plan to preserve for Himself His very elect even in this present time. Will you look unto Him and live in accordance with His standards? Will you be one of the very few that cares about the precious souls that Jesus died for? Will you give attention to the little details that make a whole lot of difference and is capable of hindering or attracting others to the Kingdom of light?
On the other hand, not minding the constant battle between light and darkness and a need to stand for Jesus till the end, will you bend or give in for the sake of relevance, the world’s definition of success, and the applause of men, thereby becoming a tool that is capable of driving out those who are already in the fold or be an hindrance to the coming in of those who want to be a part of God’s family?
The fathers of faith who have gone ahead of us did not live for themselves but for the One who called them and chose them as relevant tools in His hands for the population of His kingdom and the depopulation of the kingdom of darkness. Little wonder they brought God glory while they were alive and their relevance continues even in death. They lived in a time when there was no internet to promote themselves or their material possessions, neither did they have followership as a result of their social media presence yet people heard about them as a result of the move of the Holy Spirit and they came from far and near to be blessed by God and it was evident that God’s hand was upon their lives because notable signs and wonders indeed followed their ministries.
Our generation is blessed and the blessing should not become a curse as a result of our fleshy desires and cravings for things that have no eternal value or relevance.
