God is indeed moving in the affairs of men despite the resistance of quite a lot of people who have been called to be His voice in this generation. We are a generation that will rather have our voices heard than have His voice heard. We are a generation that will choose to make a name for ourselves than have His name proclaimed far and wide. A generation that pursues our own ambition expecting that as we do so, He will find His way to fit His plans into ours. We actually are a people who have been deceived to believe that God needs us more than we need Him, yet we think we are potential candidates of Heaven. 2 Corinthians 4:5
Talking about the several drama going on in the body of Christ, which reflects self, greed and all sorts, one major challenge is the issue of disobedience. We are a generation that feels it is all about heeding to the call at the Alter, after which we can do whatever pleases us with our lives, even though we profess that Christ is our Lord. Galatians 2:20
We are a generation of believers who think God has to put into consideration our personal desires, will, aspirations, decisions and plans even as He carries out His own will here on earth. We are a generation of believers who care less about what God will have us do, yet we care so much about what He can do for us.
A generation that is all about self and things that have no eternal value which fuels our unending zeal to build cathedrals instead of building lives, yet we are quick to complain about the youths, single parents or divorcees, drug addicts, prostitutes, gigolos, homosexuals, the government, and everyone we consider “unlike us”. Maybe we should ask ourselves how much of our “lights” has shone for these ones to see our good works and glorify our Heavenly Father. Are we actually better than these people if our light is not shinning for others to see and our salt has become tasteless and of no value or importance to a tasteless world? Matthew 5:16-18
There is a need to learn from the life of Christ because He was able to draw many to the Father as a result of His way of life. (He did not just speak it, He acted it and all eyes could see His undeniable exploits) His ability to wine and dine with sinners all in a bid to shine His light for them to see is something worth looking into. He constantly built relationships so that He could have a platform through which His message of repentance that leads to salvation and ultimately eternal life will be impactful and meaningful. All that mattered to Him while He walked the earth was the sharing of the Gospel which has the power to save but some people had a problem with that and were always complaining about His relationship with those they considered “unworthy”. He however paid no attention to such distractions because He understood very well He had no other business here on earth but to save, restore and reconcile man back to the Father. As much as He did not ignore sin or encourage immorality, He did well to welcome as many sinners who were willing to listen to the gospel, and ready to accept Him as their Lord and Savior. Matthew 9: 10-17, Luke 5:27-32
We are indeed a generation just like the one Apostle Paul talked about; A people who know God but who by their deeds deny Him (1Timothy 1:16). We are a people who want others to obey our man made doctrines yet we remain disobedient to God’s instructions and act like there is nothing wrong with that, after all He is a merciful God but we can choose to be judgmental and unmerciful to others. We are a people who can be considered delusional because of our belief in the “salvation without obedience theory”. This implies that we claim to be saved but walk in total disobedience to the One who saved us. Luke 6:46, Romans 6:16
We are a people who have made the Church a place for “perfect people” hence our reason for been quick to judge others and relate with people based on how they look, what they wear or simply put- their physical appearance (which actually matters though), not minding if there is a story behind their appearance or character. A generation that is self righteous just like the Pharisees and Sadducees. How then do we get those outside the fold to come in, if we already reject them the moment we set our eyes on them? Are we going to be able to expand His kingdom while we are busy driving people away with our proud looks, ill talks, self righteousness and our holier than thou countenance. Matthew 23:1-7
Christ is the one who saves, justifies and sanctifies. I personally learnt this later in my walk with Christ and I think it’s the reason this subject matter seems very important to me, knowing that we cause more harm than good when we are all about judging those who have not even come to the knowledge of who Christ is, meanwhile we look away from our own flaws and faults that are reasons enough for unbelievers to want to stay away from Christ and His Church. Matthew 7:1-5
Those we consider unworthy and unqualified are getting out of the grip of sin and embracing the only One who is capable of delivering them and giving them a fresh start despite our slackness with regards to the preaching of the message of repentance. People are meeting with Jesus personally just as Saul who later became Paul did. This explains the fact that God is still very much in the business of saving souls and He will do so even in the midst of our unwillingness to “Go” as He has commanded us. Mark 16:15
Despite the drama going on in the body of Christ, God is busy raising an Army for Himself. Little wonder He has prepared our hearts to know that there will be several surprises in Heaven because the “self professed believers” will be shocked to see the same people we call “unworthy” and “unchurched” reigning with the King of glory while those we thought Heaven was made for will be found unworthy to inherit the Kingdom of our God. Matthew 20:16
Someone once said “Every single day people die, thinking they are going to Heaven… And they are not.” This is one statement I wish could be false but sadly it is true. Be the voice that calls others into the fold even as you pay attention to your own stand as well. Do not be a “thinker” who is “going” nowhere.
