Oh, Precious Lamb!

Little Lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life & bid thee feed
By the stream & o’er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, wooly & bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little Lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?

Little Lamb, I’ll tell thee,
Little Lamb, I’ll tell thee:
He is callèd by thy name,
For he calls himself a Lamb.
He is meek, & he is mild;
He became a little child.
I a child, & thou a lamb,
We are callèd by his name.
Little Lamb, God bless thee!
Little Lamb, God bless thee

~ William Blake.

This is definitely a year that everyone of us will live to remember. A lot of changes has happened within the space of 3 months or so. Regardless of all that is going on, Easter will still be celebrated all over the world by those who understand the essence of this great season of reflection, although in a different yet beautiful way, considering the present nature of occurrence on the global stage.

The name a person bears says a lot about their purpose or God- given assignment, the circumstances surrounding their birth, connection to God, parents reaction to their birth ETC. This explains the reason names are very important in the Bible. Genesis 25:24-26, Matthew 1:22-23

Names are not to be given for giving sake, considering that God Himself at some points had to change the names of some people because they did not spell out His purpose as much as they ought to. Genesis 17:1-6, Genesis 17:15, Genesis 32:28

Talking about the essence of Easter; it’s a good thing that in some cultures, children have fun with eggs, bunnies, candy baskets and all that. I remember the excitement Easter egg hunt brought to the faces of some of my lovely kids sometime ago, it was indescribable and I remember thinking about how beautiful it feels when God looks down and sees us searching for the things that matter to Him and His kingdom as the kids search for eggs and bunnies.

The truth however is this, Easter is more than all the egg hunts for both adults and kids. It is more than the goodies or yummies. It is about the celebration of a Person and the reason we celebrate this Person. It will be ideal if we can educate our kids to know this in order for them to look beyond their search for candies to fill their baskets with and find Jesus in the process, knowing that God gave us Jesus as a sign of His love to an undeserving people whose sins were so great they needed a Saviour to pay the price.

In John 1:29, John introduced Jesus as ” the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” The Lamb connotes perfection, innocence, purity, sacrifice, all of which Jesus is as our perfect and ultimate sacrifice for sin. Prior to His coming, the blood of animals were used to atone for the sin of man. An end came to this dispensation when He paid the price on the Cross once and for all. His purpose was clearly spelt out at the time of His conception and His name points at this purpose which He would later fulfill, considering that several prophecies had been given regarding His coming as a guilt offering for all mankind. Isaiah 53: 7-10

As I mentioned earlier, names are so powerful and points at purpose. When it comes to Jesus however, His names reveal His capability, attributes, and person. How do you explain that He is the Lion and the Lamb, the Terrible God and the Prince of peace, the Master and the Servant, ETC, considering that all these names are obviously in contrast to one another. The simple explanation is that He is who He says He is at any point in time and in any situation. Exodus 3:14

As we celebrate the holy week, the Lamb of God, the One who made Himself an ultimate sacrifice for us all, through His death on the Cross is the reason for which we experience this moment of sobriety and reflection in spite of all the requirement of self isolation, social distancing, lockdown among others. He is with us as He was when He came as babe, endured the torture and shame that the Cross brought Him. Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 53:7

The same One who is the Lamb of God will however return as the Judge. Will you be ready to stand before Him at His return? Will He be Your Shepherd at His return? Heed the call unto salvation today. Matthew 25:31-46 , Revelation 7:15-17

Not minding what is going on around you at this time, celebrate this special Easter reflecting on His promises, sufferings and His ultimate sacrifice. It is indeed an Easter to be remembered because regardless of all that is happening all over the world, the Lamb of God remains unmovable, unshakable, unchangeable and most importantly soveriegn.
