” Give ear to my words, O Lord,
Consider my meditation.
Give heed to the voice of my cry,
My King and my God,
For to You I will pray.
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord;
In the morning I will direct it to You,
And I will look up.”
~Psalm 5:1-3
Those were the words of the mouth of a great king that lived a life that was full of chaos, yet he remained focused on God and never gave up in his search for His Maker. King David must have had quite a lot of responsibilities, considering he was the King over a peculiar nation. His huge responsibilities as a king, husband, father, commander of an army, among several other responsibilities did not however deter him from making out time to put God first everyday. He was able to do this, not because he was different from us in frame considering he was just as human as you and I. The difference is that, he understood the simplicity of God’s demand; putting Him first in all things and he could achieve this because he decided to set his priorities right.
It is totally understandable that a lot of us have undeniably busy schedules that makes it almost impossible for us to seek God first every day. Sadly, there is no excuse for making out time for other things while that which matters most and should come first is dealt with as secondary. The simplicity of putting Him first daily stems from the understanding that what we consider most important and make primary is what we eventually give priority to and end up giving the first place in our lives.
If we make our relationship with God our priority, then it will be easy for us to plan our schedule such that we can go ahead and sacrifice an hour or two of our sleep, some minutes of catching up with our buddies, or simply let go of some social media/ gadgets time in order to adjust our plans in such a way that we can wake up and be able to allot some time to commune with Him before we go ahead with other things.
All things are suppose to exist for our convenience not the other way round. Therefore, we cannot afford to let things that were made for our own convenience dictate to us how, when, where and what happens at every point in time. We are to be in charge of situations and not situations taking charge of us. Let your time, plan, and schedule sync in such a way that it pleases the One who qualifies you to have the breath of life each brand new day. Genesis 1:26, 28
God’s blessings, mercies and instructions are new each day and He wants you to partake of them early enough on a daily basis. Whatever time of the day you choose to separate unto Him for personal fellowship or devotion is up to you but make sure you begin your day with Him, knowing that it is pleasing unto Him and rewarding for you because this gives you access to the needed guidance, instruction and precautions/ warnings for the day. Psalm 68:19, Psalm 143:8
Just like King David, Jesus and the heroes of faith that have gone before us made God their priority daily and succeed in life and ministry, let us learn to make other things wait until we get God involved in the new day He has blessed us with. Any other thing you put first becomes a god in your life and we know better not to have any other god besides Him. Choose to set the living God as your priority and watch every other thing in your life fall in submission to His sovereignty.
It is as simple as A,B,C… For every brand new day which He gives you the grace to see, talk to Him first before any other. He deserves it.
