As popular as this saying is, it is often taken for granted or slightly handled. i personally had my fingers burned severally before learning this statement of fact the hard way.
Often times, we find ourselves in the wrong company , but cannot be bold enough to walk away or disengage from such. This is not necessarily because we feel comfortable with such company, but because the present feeling is such that fuels our ego, makes us feel relevant amongst others and most importantly allows us feed our flesh , thereby shutting up our Spirit man.
There is however a need to always remember that a man reaps whatever he sows either into his flesh or his spirit. Unfortunately the sowings we make into the flesh does not produce valuable things , all it produces is vanity. Sowings into the Spirit however is what produces valuables and ultimately Eternal life.
Galatians 6:7-9, “7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” Note that there are reapings to the flesh as well as reapings to the Spirit, as well as an encouragement to continue doing good.
It is simple as this…The time i spend looking good physically, does not add value to my Kingdom account, it simply adds value to my flesh that will be consumed by moths and ants someday. But the time i spend praising or worshiping God adds value to my Kingdom account. ( PSALM 92: 1-3)
King David’s son was a victim of the wrong association. Let me say it here that we all have moments of unacceptable thoughts and feelings, this does not neccessarily make us unacceptable before God. What we do with those feelings or thoughts is what actually matters. David’s son Ammon rapes David’s daughter Tamar, who was a half-sister to Ammon.
That Ammon thought about his sister lustfully was not the problem. He could have killed that thought inside of him, but he let it out to the wrong person. Apparently, Ammon and his friend prior to this time could share details of their feelings, thoughts and deeds with each other, but this time around, what they did with their discussion went a long way in affecting the advised (Ammon) negatively.
The wrong counsel he received from his friend eventually led to his death 2 Samuel 13:23-38
