Get Help in the Place of Prayer

A lovely girl I met not too long ago sent a message to her sister, asking her to come back home early because their mum said they could go swimming if the sister who was away comes back early enough.

For the girl who was at home waiting for her sister to arrive, her text message revealed how ready she was to dive into the swimming pool and have some fun, but there was a limitation…. Her elder sister had to get back home on time, before that could happen.

A lot of times, we feel we want to dive into the river of prayer and swim through it graciously, but we suddenly realize we are limited. The right words do not just come out sometimes and this makes us feel we will not have what we desire in the place of prayer, as a result of the unavailability of the right words from our mouth as we pray.

This is absolutely incorrect. As long as we have the Holy Spirit in us and we fail to rely on ourselves when we come to the place of prayer. Just like the girl who told her elder sister to arrive early, considering that it was the only way she could make it to the pool and dive into the water, so are we expected to rely on the Holy Spirit for help, if we really want to experience a lovely bath each time we find ourselves in the pool of prayer.

Your words are not enough in the place of prayer. God knows all that you need and He is so generous He allows His Spirit to put even the things you fail to ask for or remember in your mouth. A sigh in the place of prayer may sound like a distraction, but when it meets with the help of the Holy Spirit in the place of prayer, it becomes words that become prayers that will be  answered by God.

ROMANS 8:26

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

There are no specific words we are expected to say in the place of prayer all the time, else prayer will become a fixed routine and ultimately a boring exercise. This can be seen in the way Jesus prayed at different times. Sometimes, He simply commanded and it was done, at other times, He just praised God and called forth what He wanted and it came forth, He also just asked questions sometimes, and the answers followed , and He at some point in time had to groan, yet it was counted as prayers and He got answers, because the Spirit of God knew the words those groaning represented. ( MATTHEW 26:39, MATTHEW 6:9-11, LUKE 23:34, MATTHEW 27:46, JOHN 11:41-42)

Knowing the right thing to say in the place of prayer is not a function of how well you have rehearsed, or how much you know, it is as a result of how much you yield yourself to God.

Help is released in the place of prayer when we are in total submission to the Spirit that can help us when the need arises. This help is what makes God’s Spirit pray for us, through us and with us, knowing fully well that we all need help in the place of prayer.

Instead of struggling in the place of prayer, get help from the One who is able to help with the right words at all times- The Holy Spirit.
