I was obviously tired and all I could think of was to hit my well laid bed and enjoy a smooth ride into dreamland. To my amazement, my Spirit disagreed with the choice my body just made. I could hear myself grumbling in my head , as I “screamed silently,” not having the gut to say aloud the words out of my mouth, knowing fully well that the voice that disagreed with my body’s decision to sleep was no other person’s, but God’s. “Can’t I just get a little more hours of sleep, despite the stress of the day?” I asked. All I heard after that was nothing but silence. I was left with making a choice and I bet you are trying to guess what choice I made.
The choice I made was to sleep. I was obviously tired that night and the moment I Heard God say to me clearly….. “Study the Word before you sleep.” I immediately turned off the lamp, as I gave a numerous reasons I had to sleep. Interestingly, I slept off almost immediately. The truth is I definitely missed out on what God had to say that night, and it was no one else’s fault but mine.
When I woke up the next day, two people whom I did not talk to about my act of disobedience the night before spoke about taking God’s simple instructions for granted and how our disobedience does not affect God, but affects us in several ways. Although they both said it briefly and at different times, I knew it was God talking to me through them…… After all, He once spoke though a donkey, all in a bid to correct an erring man, how much more His own children.
NUMBERS 22:28
” And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay”
The beautiful thing about the God of the Universe is that He does not hold on to our wrong doings forever. He is always looking out for ways to help us put behind us our short comings and mistakes, by helping us to learn from them and making the decision to act better the next time.
PSALM 103:9
“He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.”
The moment we are genuinely repentant and willing to make right our wrong, He is ever ready to bring us back to Himself and restore us. Sadly, we sometimes care less about the mistakes or wrong decisions we make, and how they hurt God. It is not pleasing to God that we keep doing things the way we want them done and not the way He expects us to do them. God wants us make the choice to do as He pleases, which is the reason His forgiveness is always available the moment we make up our minds to do things as He expects of us.
1 JOHN 1 :19
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
God knows our frame. He knows we are mere mortals, but He expects us, having become His children, bought with a price so great, to quit making disobedience our lifestyle. It is true we make mistakes, or fall into temptations , but accepting the life of disobedience as our way of life is displeasing to God.
No matter how irrelevant His instructions, leading, and guidance seem to the natural man, always remember that He does not stand to lose anything if You fail to do as He says, but You definitely stand to lose so much . The question is ” Do we have to lose anything at all from an amazing Father like the Father that we have, simply because of the wrong choices we make by giving in to the flesh and its desires?”
JOHN 6:63
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
No one can perfectly please the Father or make the right choices, except He or she is helped by the Holy spirit. Hence, our need for the Greatest Helper assigned to us. If only we will turn to Him for help at those darkest times, and weak moments, we will realize how much help and strength He is able to release to us.
Making excuses for the things God expects us to do will truly not affect God in anyway. God has nothing to lose at any point in time as a result of the choices we make , considering that with or without us, He is God. We however stand to miss out on His blessings made available at such times. Choose to do as He says, and at the time when He says it, so as to enjoy His unending blessings as a Good Father.
PSALM 128:1
“Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.”
