There are quite a lot of things we would have been able to achieve as God’s creation if we look beyond diversity in culture, belief and tradition, and language. God expects us to see diverseness as His way of making life interesting. Sadly, living together as one big family despite cultural, religious, social and economical diversity can be a problem, if there is no right mind set.
Diversity, if not properly managed can breed hatred, insensitivity to the need of others, and the feeling superiority. In the sight of God however, no culture is better than another, neither is any people better than the others, to Him we are simply the work of His hands that He gave up His most precious gift for.
JOHN 3:16
“ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Jesus’s sacrifice of His life on the Cross of Calvary was not for a specific group of people alone, it was for all mankind. I am sure His heart beaks each time He sees us proudly displaying our disunity and intolerance of one another. As far as God is concerned, we are all His children, no matter our background, interests, language, culture, and traditions.
The truth is we naturally feel at home with people who have things in common with us, considering that it helps us to have a sense of belonging. Sadly, this can bring about unhealthy competition, and a feeling that the group we belong to is better than others.
The inability to look at others through the eyes of Jesus and to do to them what we would want done to us is what fuels strife, pride, racism and inconsideration of those who do not have the same culture, belief or traditions as ours.
When God created man in different skin colour, height, shape and sizes, it was for the sake of the revealing of His creative ability, which ultimately points at our individual and collective uniqueness. I have always said ” If everyone looks the same way, talk the same way, eat the same food, have the same interest, culture and traditions, life will be pathetic and boring.” That is just my thought actually.
You may never truly understand why people do what they do, but you can find out some of the reasons by spending time with them, looking out to know what it felt like to grow up in the kind of environment grew up in, and also by admitting that you are not perfect yourself.
1 CORINTHIANS 1:10-13
“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?”
Christ is for all Nations, Kindred and Tribe. He desires that we make the most use of our connection to Him as our Source of life to live together in love, unity, and respect for one another, which is in a way a pathway to restore the lost, give life to the spiritually dead, give hope to the hopeless, and ultimately bring the world to bow at the feet of Jesus at His Second Coming.
If we stay united, we will achieve more, and also discover how much we actually have in common as God’s Master piece. We will also discover how blessed we truly are to have variety in this beautiful world. Contrary to the lie of the devil,we will live with the understanding that our diverseness is a blessing, not a curse. ( GENESIS 11:1-11)
