Believing A Lie?

I smile when I hear people call you a fool, failure, and a weak person because you gave in to the deception of the enemy of your soul when what you did is the same thing our generation is still doing today –believing a lie

Someone once said to me “How will God give someone access to everything, except one thing and that one thing that is an exception will be too hard for that person to avoid? That was really stupid of Eve you know?” Said the person.
I really do not know what the person expected me to respond with but I was sincere in giving my response and it sounded like this “Really? How smart have you been with sin? Come to think of it, that is the one thing that God warns us not to touch, taste, or handle, yet we keep falling for the subtle lies that drive us into its trap from time to time.

It is quite interesting that we are quick to judge Mother Eve, yet we fall into the same error that she made, which is – believing a lie. Eve was probably not prepared for what she met with at the time the enemy of her soul came to dialogue with her.
He started with a subtle question that points at his crafty and manipulative way of giving man the wrong information in a bid to get that man to believe a lie. This he does by confusing man into believing what he has to say as against what God had said.

“Has God said you shall not eat of any tree of the garden?”
Genesis 3:1

Mother Eve’s response to the question above was innocent. It sounded more like this… ” Hmmmn, you’re kind of right Satan, but not a hundred percent right you know?” She went further to state the truth she knew to him and it was that :

“ …We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;  but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.”
Genesis 3: 2-3

There is no doubt about the fact that Eve knew what the truth was. She was aware of the exact thing God said, which is different from what the enemy of her soul said. Looking closely at what he said, he sounded like someone who was painting God as bossy, bad, inconsiderate, and wicked. His question in Genesis 3:1 sounded like he made the woman wonder why there was so much to enjoy, yet God did not want them to enjoy any of those things. This was however far from the truth because they had access to all things, except one thing- the tree in the middle of the garden (the tree of the knowledge of good and evil- Genesis 2:17 )

Considering that the picture he painted from the very beginning of their conversation was such that was different from the reality Mother Eve had experienced in the garden, we can say that she should have chosen to stand firm in defense of God or simply discontinue conversing with him by firmly rebuking him right?” I love the fact that you said ” Yes” to that question because the truth is she knew God had not stopped them from enjoying so much in the garden like the bad guy wanted her to believe.

But the next question is ” Are you doing better than Eve right now?” Are you satisfied with all that God has given man access to and simply leaving all that He clearly says touch not, taste not, and handle not”? ( Colossians 2:21) or do you make excuses for touching, tasting, and handling some of the things He says not to because you feel that what He has graciously provided is not enough or you just want to find out why He has kept somethings (which are in the real sense harmful or destructive) from us?

Before you judge Mother Eve, bear in mind that human nature is such that makes us naturally strong-willed, inquisitive, rebellious, and daring. When we are full of ourselves or the flesh,  we are easily drawn to question, doubt, and rebel against God’s authority. It takes a Spirit-filled life to please God rather than the flesh. ( Romans 8:8, Galatians 5:16-25)

There is no doubt about the fact that Eve was fully aware of what God said, including the consequences of disobedience to His laid down instructions, yet she was willing to take a chance because she heard a different narrative from the enemy of her soul, which sounded and looked good.

What different narrative did Eve hear and how did it push her into believing a lie?

The narrative Eve heard that got her enticed is the same narrative we hear today that makes humans worship Satan, give in to his lies, desire to be “god”, all because of the way he boldly sounds like he is the one in charge of all things and not God.

“Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Genesis 3:4-5

Wow! This is quite interesting because he made her feel he was sure about the fact that what God said was going to happen if they disobey God was certainly not going to happen. Sad as this may sound, quite a lot of people are believing the same lie today and as such, they do not believe in the reality of eternal damnation or eternal separation from God which is the consequence of man choosing to go in his own way and living in disobedience to God’s instructions.

Would you rather believe a lie or know the Truth….. | Freedomborn

Despite Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross, man still continuously fails to embrace the call to salvation and to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Does this change the fact that there are consequences for sin and that there is a coming judgment? “No.” ( John 12:48, 2 Corinthians 5:10 )

Just as Mother Eve had a choice to make when the father of lies painted God in a bad light and offered her more than she needed as God’s special lady whose life was perfect until the time he-the deceiver came into the picture, so did Christ have to face the temptations of physical appetite, emotional cravings, and pride of which He triumphed in it all because He knew what God said, he stood on the Word, and rebuked the devil, using the truth of God’s Word to escape believing the lies of the enemy of His soul. (Matthew 4:1-11)

The same Word is still available today. We can overcome the several lies and deception of the enemy of our soul by making a choice to believe the truth that God speaks rather than the lies that the devil paints as the truth just to get us to believe a lie and as a result end up in eternal damnation like himself and his angels. ( Matthew 25:41)

TO BELIEVE A LIE MEANS TO EMPOWER A LIAR”
