Change is possible with God

One thing a lot of people crave for is change. The desire for change is the reason we make certain promises to God, ourselves, family and friends, believing we can fulfill those promises by our own effort. The sad news is you cannot effect any change without the help of the One who made you and knows your frame.

Interestingly, some days look so beautiful and promising, that you wake up telling yourself “Today is definitely going to be better than yesterday or last week. “I will attend to all pending issues,” or “I will finish up that assignment today, “I will make that call today,” or “I will avoid the use of curse words today,” or “I will read that chapter of the Bible today”, or “I will not waste my time on irrelevant things on the internet today.” But by the time the day is over, you realize you have done none of those things you proposed to do, neither have you made any significant change as you desire.

The truth is you are not alone, a lot of people struggle with the same thing you consider peculiar to you. Yours could  could be the desire to give up a habit, to be a better person, to get an important thing done, to make a pending restitution,to pay a pending debt, to react better to situations, to consider the other person’s feelings before making a statement, to show your family that you love and care for them, to surrender your will to God, amongst several other things you know you can do better.

The good news is God is with you, and He knows how much you desire to be a better you. Giving up is therefore not an option, considering that God is always willing to help you through the most challenging and difficult situations and enable you to make the necessary change that will ultimately make you a perfect example of His ability to transform anyone he chooses to, like He did for Paul ( ACTS 1:1-19, ACTS 22:3-16)

God is aware of your frame and He knows you sincerely want to do the right things, but it is practically impossible for you to do so without His help. As a matter of fact, the more you try to make a change without His help, the more frustrating things get.

ROMANS 7:19- 25

“For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.”

All you need to do is admit you desire a change and submit your will to God’s will and see how He helps you make the necessary change(s) day after day, until you are perfected in Him.
