Dear Father, You do not expect me to earn Your love as a result of my works. Your love is selfless and unconditional unlike that of man which is selfish and conditional. It is not what I do that qualifies me of Your love, it is who You are that makes me worthy of Your love. It is a gift I will never be able to earn. Even when I do nothing to qualify me of Your love, You still make it available to me. Just like the prodigal son, I do not necessarily have to be at my best before You decide to pour out Your love on me. The father sat and looked out for that lost son of his and did not care about how much work he had left undone while he was away. What mattered most was the return of the son that was once diligent, focused and promising. It was not what the son could do for the father that mattered, it was what the father could do for the son that truly mattered to the father. This is what Your love looks like – so deep it will reach out to me in my worst state regardless of what I do or leave undone. Just like this father, You know that I get distracted by ” all kinds of stuff”, yet You look out daily just to sight me from afar so You can restore me back to Yourself. You love me so much You will leave the Ninety-nine and come after me. Oh! what a selfless love. Each time I wander away, help me to come back to Your unending love that is always available to me. AMEN.
