” And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord.
They said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’?
For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.”
And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
~Exodus 14:10- 14
Do you ever doubt the love God has for you? We have all experienced some setbacks, challenges or difficulties that made us wonder if He truly is for us. It is easy to tell someone “God loves you”, yet for the person to believe in this love is also as important. The beautiful thing however is that God does not need us to believe that He loves us before He shows us His love. His love is available, regardless of how we feel or do not feel.
Have you ever doubted His love? Do you at this moment feel He does not love you? You are not alone. Quite a lot of people feel this way when things do not go the way they expect. To give in to doubts about His love for us is to believe a lie. Until we understand that God is love how ever, and that there is no wickedness or injustice in Him, we may never be able to see beyond what we are faced with and that will only make us incapable of seeing His love at work in the midst of the most challenging times. To doubt His love is to doubt His person.
The children of Israel questioned His love when they were confronted with a truly dreadful situation after they had left Egypt in obedience to God’s Word. The same God who had done great and marvelous things for them prior to this time was now to be doubted. The truth is that fear was the reason they doubted God when they saw the hosts of Egypt. As far as Israel was concerned, God was being unfair to them to have allowed them to be stuck at the bank of the Red Sea. The question however is ” What does God stand to gain in allowing Egypt conquer His covenant seeds( Israel)?” When we go through such times and seasons, when it feels like His love is far from us, let us be reminded that He has no reason to leave us stranded. Just as He came through for Isreal, He is able to do the same for us.
This explains the need for us to grow in our knowledge of God and His love. That things do not go the way we expect does not mean He has stopped loving us. Why would the same people who saw the first born of man and beast of every Egyptian die, meanwhile not even their own animals fell ill, doubt God’s love? It is the same thing we do today. Whenever life throws its jabs at us, we begin to question His love. His love is undeniably the greatest thing we can lay claim to. It is the reason we have life in the first place.
It is important to be reminded that regardless of what comes our way, we have victory in Christ who for the sake of His love gave Himself up for us. If He could die for you, what is it that He will not do for you? Instead of questioning or doubting His love, it is better we search our hearts and be sure we love Him enough to remain in love with Him when the battles rage and when the blows of life hit us, knowing fully well that He is in the midst of it all with us.
Israel eventually had victory over the Egyptians who had pursued them but it was not as a result of them loving God or recognizing His presence in their midst. It was simply because God Himself decided to show them His unconditional love. They murmured so much that you would have had to ask if they were the same people that He did so much for before this time, yet He came through for them. This points at the fact that His love does not have to do with us accepting His love or not, considering that even those who disregard or dishonor God have access to His provisions. His love is available to all but we have a choice to make in accepting or rejecting this love.
Embrace the love He offers today. This love is expressed in Christ choosing to suffer and endure the pain that came with the Cross. If He had to go through some difficult times, even as the Son of God, yet He never doubted God’s love for Him, you should understand that what we see and what we are faced with should not be capable of separating us from the love of this loving and kind God. The problem is not with Him, He is love. Nothing can change who He is. As for you, do you love Him irrespective of whatever you feel or see? Oh! How He loves you despite our faults. Oh! How He wants a relationship with you.
