Genuine or Fake Love ?

Why would you pray to someone you do not talk about, appreciate, reverence, obey or treat as He should be treated? The answer is simple “It is because you think you are smarter than He is, and so you can get Him to do for you whatever you want, at whatever time you want it done, and for whatever reason you want it done!”

Another question regarding genuine or fake love is “How can you claim to love someone and not talk about Him or her? The answer is also not difficult. It is simply because your supposed love for that person is fake.

A lot of us find it very easy to talk to God about our needs, yet we are not concerned about His own needs, His will or His purpose. Interestingly, we have made prayer a channel of commanding God, while we fail to listen to His own orders.

DEUTERONOMY 10:12

“And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”

The present day prayer warrior spends the whole or most of the time telling God why He has to do this or that for him or her. The funny thing is God cannot be boxed into a corner. He does what He does when He wants to do it, how He wants to do it and for the reason He wants to do it.

Jesus never wasted the effect of prayers while He was on earth. Each time it was recorded that He went to pray, He actually returned to talk about the God He had just met with in the place of prayer, by preaching and teaching others about Him. Also, whenever Miracles, Signs and Wonders were performed through His hands, He went back to God in the place of prayer. ( LUKE 4:1-13, LUKE 5 :12- 16, MARK 1 :35-39, MARK 6:34-46 )

It is not possible that you meet with me and we get into a conversation for more than an hour without me mentioning my lovely husband to you. This is not something I rehearse before hand, it something that comes naturally, because I am in love with an amazing man and cannot but mention him to the people I come across. Sometimes, he never gets to know that I talked about him, but the fact remains that I did.

God expects us to display our genuine love for Him, not because of what we want from Him, but because we love Him just for who He is and as such cannot just keep quiet about Him. It is not a love that mentions Him when we are in need only.

To pray (talk) to God and also talk about Him to others is what genuine love is. It is just like not being able to keep silent about the person you just went on a date with, the friend you just had a lovely conversation with, how much more the Only One you know is able to do all that is obviously impossible.

It is a kind of love that makes prayer all about God’s will and not yours. Even when you have your requests, it is focused on His purpose and His glory being revealed through it all.

MATTHEW 6:9-13

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

Is this what your prayer pattern looks like? Or is it a “Me, Myself and I” kind of pattern that reveals your love for God is fake and not genuine?
