Having Good Intention Is Not Obedience (Part 1)

When we walk with God and have a relationship with Him, He will always have things He expects us to do at every point in time. The challenge with quite a lot of people is that they sincerely receive instructions from God with the intention to obey Him sometimes later, but end up disobeying Him with time as a resulting of not doing what He requested initially.

That we intend to obey God does not actually mean we are obedient. Obedience is in doing what we have been instructed to do, regardless of the perceived difficulty, impossibility or seemingly stupid nature of the instruction.

Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, yet he went through this painful act of obedience the same day God gave him the instruction. He did not choose to  intend to do it and for several days, months, years try to figure out how to or not to do it. His decision was not about intending to do it, it was about going ahead to do what was required of him. Genesis 17:10- 14, 23- 24

The same God that was in the days of Abraham is still the same today and the One who will always be. It is interesting to see that our generation however sometimes act like the God of this present time is such a puppet that can be tossed in whatever direction we want or given options and conditions even as we so please. Hebrews 13:8

Having good intentions does not automatically produce obedience. That you talk about what He has asked you to do, or that you honored Him by saying ” Yes Sir, I will do just as You have said”, does not point at the fact that you will eventually act in obedience. God cannot be deceived or toyed with by the work of His hands. He looks beyond you intending to do and requires obedience from you instead. Matthew 21: 28-30

What has God asked you to do lately? Is there anything He has clearly asked of you and you intend to do it but just cannot get yourself to do it? Act on those things now. It is important we get to a point where we realize that He is never going to require from us what we cannot give or what He has not made provision for, neither will He send us on journeys we cannot embark upon. All we have to do is trust and obey, not to intend to do and disobey.

PRAY:

Father, I thank you for calling me Your own. I receive the grace to go beyond intending to do the things You ask of me. I will honor and obey You promptly as I journey through life. AMEN
