Make The Best Use Of Your Emotions- Anger

ECCLESIASTES 7:9

“Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.”

I have never come across a person who feels good about being called a fool. Even the obviously  foolish person wants to be praised and addresses as wise, yet a fool remains a fool, until he turns away from his foolishness.

Moses was referred to by God Himself as the meekest of all men in the earth while he was alive, yet anger almost cost him absolute waste of his years of genuine service and passion for God and the things of God.

JUDE 1:9

“Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”

Humanly speaking Moses had the right to be angry with the children of Israel, considering their insincerity, doubt and hypocritical lifestyle. Sadly, God wanted Moses to realize He is capable of dealing with His creatures Himself, which is the reason no one is actually worth getting us so angry, we end up losing our minds and ultimately our place in God.

In Exodus chapter 2 he- Moses killed a supposed enemy of his own people (EXODUS 2:11-12). In GENESIS 32:19, he used his own hands to destroy what God Himself put together. In Numbers 20: 10-12, he allowed anger lead him into disobeying God and as a result, God did not permit him to enter into the promise land he had labored so hard for.

Anger is a terrible bait from the enemy that can bring down the greatest of men. The truth however is the fact that anger is most times centered around “Self.” A sincere search into the root cause of anger most times, is the nature of man that thinks highly of himself, causing him to think less about God and others.

This does not mean it is not possible for anger to be born out of selflessness or a genuine love and passion for God and the things of God, yet this emotion still has to be subjected to the will of the One who knows and is able to do all things.

A perfect example of someone whose anger was not a product of thinking highly of himself is David. When this young boy heard about the oppressor of God’s children, he did not brag to everyone that cared to listen how he had defeated the lion and the bear in the past. neither did he make the promise of the King his motivation, all that mattered to David was for God to be glorified.

1 SAMUEL 17: 26

“David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

David would have died like a foolish youth, if he had allowed “Self” to take the place of a heart that is willing to allow God Himself defend His own name. Instead of allowing anger consume his heart, David decided to make use of his anger wisely by handing the battle over to the only One who is able to defend His name, and God did just that by miraculously defeating the one that sorely vexed God’s people.

The next time the feeling of anger springs up inside you, be sure it is not about you, but about God and His things, and be wise to hand it all over to Him. Failure to do so produces defeat, loss and tragedy that is sometimes irredeemable.

Just as David made the best use of the feeling of anger when he was confronted by the oppressor of Israel, so does God expect us to wisely make use of this destructive, yet constructive emotion- Anger.
