I am thinking about how much I love chocolates and the fact that it is said to be unhealthy, but I tell myself that it is too much of it that is called “unhealthy.” Several times, I have had to cross the red line , and I had to pay the price and live with the guilt that came with my unhealthy decision.
Weight gain is one of the several prices I pay for my chocolate crave and indulgence . This is accompanied by my need to either hit the gym, or work out on my own to get rid of the extras consumed.
Interestingly, this is something I can decide to avoid and save myself from the stress and time wasted in a bid to get rid of what I intentionally consumed to my own detriment.
Does my love for chocolates change the fact that chocolates are not so healthy or that too much of it is absolutely unhealthy?
This is the same way some of us handle our relationship with God. We cross the red line before realizing how far we have gone.
Knowing fully well that God desires a relationship with us, we choose to spend our time with other people, or on other things instead. We allocate little or no time at all to Him and end up feeding our minds with the several junks from false teachers, deceptive motivational speakers, and materials that puts a lot of weight on us, considering that they are full of junk!
Just like my love for chocolates, Samson’s indulgence was the kind of women that God had no pleasure in. He had a strong appetite for the kind of women that could not help him fulfill his God- given purpose, yet he felt it did not really matter, at least he had been prior to his birth declared a judge and a deliverer of God’s people from the enemies of God- The Philistines.
JUDGES 14: 3
“Then his father and his mother said to him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she looks good to me.”
Samson took his relationship with God for granted, he kept making unhealthy decisions, choices that took him out of God’s covering became his way of life, just like cravings for unhealthy foods fuel weight gain, and sometimes health issues.
Samson’s love for strange women drew him away from God and fueled his confidence in himself, he relied on himself and trusted in his ability to overcome the enemy no matter how disconnected he was from God.
He kept crossing the red line , until he lost his place, strength, vision and life ultimately.
Staying away from unhealthy choices, habits and cravings could save you a whole lot of stress and unpleasant consequences.
It is better to be safe than sorry. Stay away from red lines by making right and healthy choices. You can do the right thing , all it takes is a conscious effort , backed up by total reliance on God.
PHILIPPIANS 4: 13
“I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”
