The Power of the Ears

When I was a little child, I remember hearing quite a lot of things parents said about their children and this includes really saddening things that made the little girl that I was look at those children through the eyes of what my ears heard from their parents.
Funny enough, I realized that for those children who were in my age group and I got the chance to Interact with them, they simply believed they were who their parents said they were and they sometimes wanted to prove this by doing the things I was certain was not what they really wanted to do. Sadly, most of the time, these children were quiet when they wanted to talk, they talked when they wanted to be quiet, they looked sad when they wanted to be happy, they failed when they wanted to succeed, and this was all because they believed what they had heard others say about them.

Your ears have a vital role to play in the fulfilment of what God has called you to do. What you hear should be subjected to what He said in His Word, through His Word or His Spirit, or to your ears personally. Nothing is permitted to make you less of who He has made you, except you permit such.

In Numbers 13, Twelve men were sent on a mission. It was a mission given to them by God, so He could fulfil His promise which He made to them when He sent them out of Egypt. These men returned with a good report that had a scary ending.
NUMBERS 13: 26-28
” And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey, and this is the fruit of it.

Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover, we saw the children of Anak there.”

When the children of Isreal heard the latter part of that report, they forgot about the interesting facts that were first reported by the spies. They did not need to see what they were told before fear rose up in their hearts. All they needed was their ears hearing the report and their hearts believing it. They forgot who had promised to give the land to them and what He had done for them before that time. This is how powerful the ears are.

The moment they heard those words, they desired to go back to suffering, slavery, bondage, past failures, and unprofitable labour. This is how powerful our ears are.

NUMBERS 14:1-4

“And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried, and the people wept that night.

And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.”

What you hear has to be what God has already seen before you were conceived which made Him say it.  Whatever the people who didn’t know the beginning of your beginning see right now and say does not matter in any way. As long as you know who said to you what you are holding on to, disregard every other sound or noise around you and focus on the surest voice- God’s voice
Anyone can talk but not everything said by everyone is to be allowed in your mind. Little wonder God gave us the power of choice, but whatever choice we make ends up having power over us. No one has the right to choose for you what you believe about yourself and the promises of God for you. What you ultimately believe is a matter of the choice you stand to make.
ISAIAH 30:21
“And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.”
If God’s purpose for your life really matters to you, you will focus on what God said and not what anyone made by God said. It is never about the creature, it is always about the Creator. The creature can fail, but the Creator never fails. Whatever He says is ultimately sensible and reliable.
ROMANS 3:3-4

“For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.”

Quiet the noise all around you by filtering what gets into your heart and tune your ears to the frequency of the undeniably reliable radar of the One who made you. What you hear and give attention to can go a long way in determining what you become for good or otherwise. Be careful of who makes noise in your ears and how their noise discourages, limits and distracts you from walking in God’s purpose for you.
PHILIPPIANS 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
