In her silence, I could sense rage and fury. My lovely friend whose sweet spirit inspires me to want to give back to my community was simply struggling to be an amazing gift that God ordained her to be to humanity. She has been through so much and it has made her love for God wax cold because she feels despite all that she has been through, God was still bringing several unbearable trials and pains her way. It was written all over her that she had concluded the night will always be and the morning will never come.
I was thinking about all that is going on around her and how her current need for a major surgery did not change the fact that God is still firmly behind her and that He is always a Good God. As I thought about it all and was trying to get the right words in prayer for the situation, I came across someone else who said he was done trying to have a relationship with God because God is too demanding. In his opinion, he has done everything he can to please God and have a relationship with Him but it feels like God just acts like He does not really care about him considering all that he has been through and is still going through. He continued by saying he had prayed and cried, yet it felt like nothing was happening because he believes he has more than he can handle and he is tired of believing God cares about him. Why would you feel God is demanding when He asks that you exchange your heavy burdens for the light one He offers?
I may not fully understand how these people feel but I am certain I can relate with their pains to a reasonable extent because I do not have it all together myself. Just like King David and other great sons and daughters of God of old, there are times I just wish I can see God face to face and ask Him some really disturbing questions( wink). This does not, however, give me a reason to believe God’s lack of care for either of us is the reason we have things that bother our minds and sometimes shake our faith and like my two dear friends mentioned above, make people get to a point where they say they are done with God.
The unfortunate thing is that the true Gospel has been perverted and quite a lot of teachings people hear today gives them a wrong notion of God’s promises to us as His children. God never promised us a life without troubles, what He promised us is that our victory is ascertained as we face the challenges of life. If I can face life with the understanding that my victory is ascertained, it will be easier to walk through the things that bring others down.
I have heard people say having a problem is as a result of your inadequacies before God and they stop at this, without offering the way out or other possible reasons problems may arise which include God’s desire to build you up through trials, the devils desire to make you see trials as God’s act of wickedness and inconsideration. God is merciful and gracious and will forgive anyone who turns to Him in repentance, so if you have made your wrong right with God, your inadequacies are not the reason for present challenges. To think that God will deal cruelly with you even after you have turned to Him for forgiveness will make you unfair in your conclusion about God.
Jesus went through more than a lot of us are going through at the moment, yet He did not give up on the Father. For all He went through, it is recorded that He learnt obedience through it all. That is Jesus, right? After all, He is God Himself. I agree, but He came in the flesh so He could feel pain, hurt, rejection, betrayal, slander, temptations, sufferings, and death just like you and I. In all these things He never saw God as unjust, or cruel. Instead, He fixed His gaze on the Father’s will through it all, which is the reason He triumphed.
Unlike Jesus, Apostle Paul was at least flesh and blood like us. He had the same number of head, hands, eyes, nose, etc, like you and I and he was fully human like us, yet he endured all sort of accusations, sufferings, pains, imprisonment, hunger, persecution and shame for the sake of the One whom He believed. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Nehemiah, Jeremiah, Joshua, to mention a few all went through unbearable situations but they kept their faith in God, made right their ways with Him where they thought they had missed it and from all their Biblical account, they came victors and not victims.
When a person gets to a point where they feel despite their effort to please God, He seems not to be fair to them considering all that is going on in their life that is overwhelming and exhausting it can result in been religious ( trying to reach up to God), which is dangerous to the spiritual life of a man, considering that our faith is about God reaching out to us. It is never about how much we can do but how much He already did for us that we are expected to tap into.
When a man tries to reach up to God and he feels God is not reachable, it can make such a person decide to stay away from God. The sad news is staying away from God only makes matters worse, it does not help in any way. It is also important we remember we cannot please God with our own effort. It requires faith to please God and we have to rely on Him for the grace to please Him through the help of His Holy Spirit.
This is not about going to Church, being religious or legalistic like the Pharisees and Sadducees or acting like we’ve got it all together when we truly do not. It is about getting into a genuine relationship with God and being able to get to that point where we can say ” No matter what comes my way, I will yet hold on to God till the end”. Our love for God or the decision to stay with Him should not be based on what we get or do not get from Him.
The life that will follow Jesus till the end is such that will be willing to trust that the concluded work of Jesus and not our effort is all that qualifies us for His blessings and the victory that we desire. We must be aware of the depth of His love which is that He first loved us and died for us while we were yet on the side of the enemy and He certainly will not do us wrong now that we are on His side.
To all my hurting friends and those of us who will be sincere enough to say we desire that God gives us our desired victory over all that is currently weighing down our heart or faith in God, I want to say, “God is willing to do for us more than we desire but we must be people who love Him so much we can boldly tell the world our love for Him is not based on the goodies He offers but because of who we know Him to be- a sincere friend who feels our pains and does not delight in seeing us suffer.
Hold on to Him and let nothing separate you from His love. Nothing is worth you losing your place in Him. When it looks like there is no faith or trust left in you for this Loving and Kind God, know it that He still has so much love for you that He reaches out to you in your darkest hours.
The night does not last forever. No matter how long it seems, it will be over before you know it because there is always a morning after the night.

Truely, the night doesn’t last for ever; after the night comes morning.
My Lord and my God, i desire that You give me my desired victory over situations and circumstances that is currently weighing down my heart of faith in Jesus name.
Though i have resolved like Job that: Even if you slay me, i will yet trust You with all my heart. Please help me Lord.
