What’s The Real Deal?

“Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.  And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Matthew 24:3-10

I understand that series of events have happened in the course of this year which has brought about all kinds of analysis and predictions across the globe.  For some, it is believed that this period marks the beginning of the end and for others, it is actually the end.

The Bible is clear on what our actions and reaction should be to the events of the world. We are not to spend our time guessing the day or the hour when our Savior will return. Rather than focus on looking out for the signs and the events all around us, our responsibility is to focus on Jesus. Everything else is a distraction, all the signs we see simply points at Him- the Soon-Coming King.

It is true that there is so much fear, anguish, pain, sorrow, loss, anxiety, weariness, going on all around us. This does not change the fact that there is so much joy made available in this season as well. Do not let the negative vibes stand in the way of the positive ones that are meant to keep your hope alive. Giving in to these negative vibes will mean giving in to distractions.

Every event that points at the return of Jesus should be seen as signs and pointers to what is to come, which is – Christ our Saviour. These events or signs are not in themselves what is to come ultimately. Why give your energy into what is not the real deal while you ignore the real deal? The signs won’t last forever, but the Giver of the signs will.

Truth be told, there is a lot going on in the world that is capable of making quite a lot of us believe that the end is near. The question however is how far have we actually gone in proclaiming the gospel to the nations as a body, considering that everyone must hear the Good news before the King will actually return? (Matthew 24:14)

Rather than complaining about the woes of this present time, you have been called to faithfully proclaim His name to every generation for as long as the Savior tarries. You are not kept alive at such a time as this to merely count or keep a record of the signs of His second coming, but you are to point men to His saving grace. (Romans 10:14, Mark 16:15)

What has been the priority of the body of Christ before now?  What has been your own personal priority? Has it been the proclaiming of the gospel of Christ or the proclaiming of another gospel- of self ambition, and personal agenda, rather than divine revelation or agenda? ( Galatians 1:6-12)

Just as the woman at the well of Samaria, have you without shame being pointing men to the One who saved you? (John 4: 28-30). There is a need to take seriously the assignment of the Great Commission which Christ committed into our hands when He was leaving the earth if we really believe there is nothing in this world that can be compared to the beauty and the glory of Heaven.

Be aware of the subtle distractions that are capable of taking the focus of men away from the real problem the world is confronted with, which is sin. These distractions make us focus on the events that television programs, the news, social media, and other platforms constantly bring to our view and we can be deceived into believing that the happenings all around the world are the problem when the real problem is that several lost souls are walking around while you and I fail to do the needful -proclaim the Good news.

The real deal is who is coming, not what is happening at the moment. And who is coming? The King of all creations -Christ

“For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.”
Heb 10:37
